 The Flag

Although there is many a flag flying these days across all parts of the USA, it seems fewer and fewer people actually know or have taken the time to learn about respecting this proud symbol.  With the advent of the Internet, a wealth of material can be found both about its history of and proper flying and display.  This is true for just about any country.  However, my scope for this post is the American flag or more properly the flag of the United States of America.

For I detailed article with excellent links for further study, I would encourage my readers to click on Flag of the United States to go to Wikipedia's excellent and comprehensive article.  Not only do they provide a bit of our banner's history, they also share detailed etiquette.  This is a straightforward one-stop place where you can get just about all the information you need about our flag.

Flag Training

I'm convinced that some of the best flag training takes place in Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Girl Scout and similar organizations.  Rarely, is flag training taught in our public schools any longer where even saying the pledge of allegiance has become a topic of political correctness.

For a quick education and overview of proper conduct related to the flag, I like this simple to read page and wesite that you'll link to when you click on flag etiquette.  Here, you don't have to become a scholar to learn a few basics.  This is such a good review of things like saluting the flag, displaying the flag both outdoors and inside, as well as proper disposal once the flag gets in pretty bad shape.

 Why Flag Protocal

Our flag is a symbol that can serve to unite a nation of individuals.  This is especially so during tough and challenging times.  As we demonstrate the proper care and respect for our flag, something we all have in common, we demonstrate respect and care for one another.  We also pay homage to the principals that our flag represents, namely: "one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
