Is said to have started in Oijbew and then spread across the North American natives.

 

Most natives considered it to be a great part of their culture, although these days due to commercial means it is sold from a wide range of regions.

 

But it still maintains its main purpose, to protect you while sleeping and mostly from having nightmares.

 

A dream catcher can also change the person's dreams, making them more pleasant and helping you out at night. But it was first meant to help children with their nightmares and to last until the children was old enough as to not need one.

 

Dream catchers in Ecuador are made by indigenous, the same as they are in the USA. Ecuador has a rural community outside Otavalo where four indigenous made them with great care, one at a time; they are unique and handmade, all the way from the Andes to the world.

 

Dream catchers are said to help children go to sleep without nightmares. This belief has for many years brought curiosity and a lot of research as if this is actually true. As with most of indigenous traditions this is one that sure brings peace but has to be part of spiritual being.

What are feathers for...?

 

The feather(s) that go in the center of the dream catcher were put there to represent air. Since a dream catcher was put on top of a baby's crib, the feather will move slowly with the wind, distracting the child as he/she goes to sleep and also with the purpose of showing the importance of air. Today indigenous in Ecuador don't use specific feathers, but a long time ago they used female or male feathers as to differentiate each gender.

 

Do they help ?

 As with everything it is a matter of what do you believe. Most people have found peace with dream catchers as they clean the air around you, bring balance and peace and therefore you can sleep better and have fewer nightmares.

A dream catcher is like an amulet, if you trust that it can help you sleep better then it will, no only because of what do you believe, but because it does improve the ambient around you.

 

We should always listen to the nature/human relationship that indigenous have, because if we are at peace with our surrounding, we hare at peace with ourselves.
